Fans of ITV Emmerdale were left with a gripping cliff-hanger seconds before the end of tonight’s episode – and it has left everyone asking the same question.

Following Cain Dingle’s disappearance, poor Moira Dingle has been left to parent their two young sons, as well as single-handedly manage Butlers Farm. On tonight’s episode, she receives a call that Cain has been arrested in Dover.

Meanwhile – unbeknownst to Moira – Cain has spent the last several episodes going AWOL in an attempt to track down the evil John Sugden. It’s fair to say Cain has a slight vendetta – not only is John responsible for the murder of Cain’s long-lost son, Nate Robinson, but he also almost killed nephew Aaron Dingle and second-cousin Charity Dingle’s husband, Mackenzie Boyd.

After trying to kill half of Cain’s family, John fled to France with the help of Caleb Milligan – on the condition he never returned to the Dales. That hasn’t stopped Cain from spending the last few episodes hot on his heels – and now fans have been left asking: Why has Cain been arrested?

Taking to ‘X’, fans were throwing around a whole host of theories. @Wee_Westie29 said: “So Cain has been arrested in Dover. I take it his one-man manhunt for John isn’t going well.”

@david_6701 said: “I don’t understand this ending. What’s going to happen?” and @Christi2363954 said: “I thought Cain was still trawling the streets of Amsterdam looking for John?”

Others were left throwing the question around on social media. @samueljbell92 simply said: “What do you think Cain’s done?” Overall, it appears that no two people have come to the same conclusion. Only time will tell if Cain ever found John or if he was arrested for trying to find John.
