Coronation Street fans finally get answer to baffling Ben and Maggie Driscoll question

Coronation Street viewers have praised the ‘clever’ manner in which the programme addressed a query surrounding newcomers Ben and Maggie Driscoll.

Ben made his debut appearance in Weatherfield last month with a recognisable companion. He was introduced as Eva Price’s new partner, surprising her by orchestrating her return to the cobbles after a seven-year absence.

Blindfolded during the journey from Hull to Weatherfield, Eva found herself staring at the Rovers Return as Ben disclosed she was now the pub’s landlady, years since her previous stint serving behind the bar.

The pair quickly made themselves at home in the establishment and hosted a grand opening celebration for all the regular patrons. However, it was Ben’s mother Maggie’s entrance that caused tension.

Amidst the celebrations, she dropped a bombshell for Eva – revealing she was actually the landlady after Ben needed to seek her financial assistance when the transaction with Carla Connor fell through, reports the Manchester Evening News. Yet one element puzzled Corrie viewers – the mother and son’s contrasting accents.

“How come you and your mum have different accents? Or is it I’m too drunk when I’m in here,” David enquired, prompting Ben to clarify: “That, David, is a long story. But the short one is she moved up to Belfast from Galway when she married my Da.”

During Monday’s (November 17) episode, Corrie audiences finally received clarification as David Platt raised the question with Ben in the Rovers. Viewers were quick to react.

One person tweeted: “I would like to thank David Platt for finally clarifying the O’Driscoll accent anomaly. #Corrie.”

Someone else said: “Okay the accent explanation thing just now made sense whatsoever #Corrie.” A third shared: “#corrie That’s cleared up the accent conundrum.”

Another fan tweeted: “#Corrie David asking the questions we want answering!’Why do all your family have different accents?'”

Meanwhile, a fifth quipped: “Clever of #corrie to have David be the voice of the audience with this question. Now ask why him and his son look the same age!”
