Coronation Street fans think they have ‘uncovered’ newcomer Jodie’s link to Shona Platt after her arrival on the cobbles was confirmed.

The new character was simply a mystery woman when she appeared during the long-running show’s dramatic crossover with Emmerdale, dubbed Corriedale, which aired on Monday night (January 5).

As fans know, to celebrate the change to ITV’s soap schedule, which is now seeing Corrie and Emmerdale air in 30-minute instalments every week night, the two shows came together for a single episode of drama, which saw a horror of a multi-vehicle collision unfold, as well as its aftermath, with characters from both sides of the Pennines caught up in the incident.

The episode revealed that the crash was caused by Emmerdale killer John Sugden and Corrie villain Becky Swain as the pair collided while driving on a country road, sealing the exit storyline of vicar Billy Mayhew, who died after being trapped in a minibus which went up in flames, while John was later killed by his sister, Victoria.

But there was mystery surrounding the arrival of who has since become known as Jodie. She was initially seen tied up in the back of a van, thought to be the one driven by Graham Foster, however, this hasn’t been confirmed, as traffic gathered around the crash site. She ended up making an escape and when DC Kit Green gave chase, she ran straight into a tree, causing her to be among the injured.

It was then during Tuesday’s (January 6) edition of Corrie that the woman was confirmed to be ‘Jodie’ and that she was in the hospital. Also in Hotten General was Shona, who was seen being wheeled out of the ward by her husband, David, to undergo complex surgery back in Weatherfield ahead of the birth of her poorly unborn daughter.

Jodie was clearly shocked to see Shona and David, with even a nurse remarking that she “looked like she’d seen a ghost” before ushering her back to her ward, as the police wanted to speak to her as they were worried about her safety.

While Jodie and Shona’s connection hasn’t been confirmed, Corrie fans think they know how they’re known to each other after it was revealed that Jodie will be seen in Weatherfield with the Platt family in episodes to air next week.
