ITV Coronation Street actor Michael Le Vell on the future of Kevin Webster: what you need to know
He has played the luckless mechanic for more than 40 years
What you need to know as Michael Le Vell addresses the future of his Corrie character Kevin Webster
Veteran actor Michael Le Vell has confirmed his commitment to Coronation Street after playing the iconic character Kevin Webster for over 40 years. The 61-year-old is the soap’s second longest-serving actor, having joined the cast when he was just 18 years old.
The actor revealed he never takes his job for granted, as writers can always run out of ideas for characters. He expressed relief at receiving a new contract in January, securing his role for another year.
Michael admitted that even after four decades, he still gets nervous before a big scene, especially when acting alongside legends like Bill Roache or Barbara Knox. He experiences a “churning stomach” and apprehension, particularly when filming scenes with large groups in the Rovers Return.
His character, Kevin Webster, has been at the centre of many dramatic storylines over the years. Most recently, Kevin faced heartbreak after battling cancer and seeing his wife, Abi, leave him for his younger brother.
Despite fan speculation about a reunion with his former wife, Sally Metcalfe, Michael would rather see his character reconcile with Abi. He stated he prefers Sally and Tim to stay together, as he believes they are a great on-screen couple.

Michael explained that he loves working with his co-star Sally Carman, who plays Abi. Although he hopes the show’s writers find a way to reunite the couple in 2026, he confirmed that this is not currently scheduled.
The actor also shared his excitement about being part of the highly-anticipated “Corriedale” crossover, which united the casts of Coronation Street and Emmerdale. He described it as a great honour to participate in the special event, noting that such opportunities are rare.
Michael was sworn to secrecy about the full plot but revealed he was in a scene with Emmerdale‘s Jeff Hordley and Danny Miller, moving a crashed car. He shared that the night shoots involved cast members from both shows getting together for tea and a chat, which was a fun experience.
