As Carter Gets an Answer to His Proposal, Sheila Vows to Taylor That No One Will Separate Her From Deacon

As the episode begins, Steffy returns home to the cliff house. Finn, fresh from a swim, is shirtless as usual. Immediately, she informs her husband that Taylor isn’t doing as well as she thought. At that very moment, Deacon is in Taylor’s office, challenging her to say whether she wants more out of life than she currently has. In other words, an office and one patient that we ever see. At Il Giardino, Sheila corners Deke and Hope and challenges them — nicely-ish — to accept her relationship with their dad. Finally, in the FC showroom, Carter suggests that his proposal to Daphne feels right — even to her. Does it? Before we find out, we have opening credits to get through.

Steffy Recaps the Hell Outta Taylor and Deacon’s Storyline

Back at the cliff house, Steffy reveals that she busted Deacon and Taylor. “I think they may have caught feelings!” Finn is surprised; that doesn’t seem like Taylor to him. Steffy then reminds him that Deacon is married to Sheila, his biological mother. (We know, writers! We know!)

Proving to Steffy once again that he’s her rock, Finn assures her that Taylor isn’t going to put herself in danger. Steffy’s rock is also a sweet softy: He was planning a celebration of his life with his better half for when she got home.

Sheila All But Begs Hope and Deke to Like Her

At Il Giardino, Sheila pleads her case to Deke and Hope. As you can see below, they were not impressed. Once the kids have a moment alone, they both realize that the top-secret news they have to share is the same: Their dad’s fallen for Taylor.

At the shrink’s office, she insists that she’s satisfied enough with her life. Deacon counters that him finding a new therapist isn’t going to solve his marital problems or change his feelings for her. No sooner has he left than in barges Sheila. “I need your help,” she tells Taylor. Meter’s running!

Daphne Agrees to Marry Carter

In the showroom, Daphne informs Carter that he’s not her first proposal. She’s never said oui, though. He admits he’s had a lot of romantic missteps. Boy, is that putting it mildly. Anyway, now that he’s found The One, if she’s going to Paris, he’s going with her. Moved, she agrees to marry him.

From there, the couple heads to his apartment, where he has a candle burning. Its scent? Jasmine, just like Daphne was wearing the day that Carter met her. “I never felt this way about another woman,” he insists. Sorry, Zoe, Paris, Quinn, Hope and whoever I’m forgetting.

Finn Jinxes Himself and Steffy Big Time

In the episode’s final moments, Carter and Daphne seal the deal to the tune of a romantic song. She’s a keeper, Carter; don’t screw it up! Over at the cliff house, Finn discloses that his plan for the afternoon had been to savor the quiet. “To the first of many ordinary days,” he says, raising his glass to his missus’ — and jinxing them both in the process! How can I be so sure?

Please. While Steffy is reflecting on Finn’s role as her protector, Deke and Hope are comparing notes about Taylor/Deacon — and Steffy’s fears that Sheila will snap. In Taylor’s office, the madwoman is lamenting that she can’t get her stepchildren to forget her many past crimes. She risked her life to save Steffy; wasn’t that enough?

Delusional Sheila expresses her hope that someday Deke and Hope will come to love her. Tall order — sheesh. Taylor worked a miracle before, so can’t she again? Sheila demands. “Deacon is my whole world. I refuse to let anyone come between us.” Cue Taylor’s scared look!
