Kelvin Fletcher’s blunt response when asked about Emmerdale ‘I’ve moved on’
Former Emmerdale star Kelvin Fletcher has taken a different path since leaving the ITV soap that catapulted him to fame.
Kelvin, who played Andy Sugden, left Emmerdale in 2016 after portraying the character for two decades. Fans watched as Andy was framed for Lawrence White’s shooting by Chrissie White, which led him to flee custody and go on the run with a counterfeit passport to evade conviction.
Nowadays, in what some might see as life mirroring art, Kelvin and his wife Liz reside on a farm with their four young children. Their life is chronicled on the ITV series, Fletchers’ Family Farm, which is set to return for a fourth series.
Ahead of the new season, Kelvin, who celebrates his 42nd birthday this weekend, and Liz appeared on James Martin’s Saturday Morning on 17 January. They discussed their “chaotic” current lifestyle, and the chef was eager to know if Kelvin missed the soap and whether he would consider a soap comeback.
“Do you miss your old life as well? I mean you did 2,000 episodes. When you look at it like that, that’s a huge amount,” James asked him, reports the Daily Star.
To which Kelvin responded: “No I don’t. Emmerdale was 20 happy years but there’s not a day goes by I’d ever really think about it really. It’s a past chapter and I’ve very much moved on now. It’s funny, like I’ve said before, how life’s imitating art.”
James then enquired whether his character had been killed off or if he could potentially make a return to the Dales.

“I think I’m on the run, I think I’m in Spain,” Kelvin quipped. “So I could go back having trained as a chef with a bit of a tan!”.
For now, Kelvin and Liz are concentrating on the fourth series of Fletchers’ Family Farm, which documents their escapades on their farm in the Peak District.
Liz gave a sneak peek of what viewers can anticipate, saying: “We’re bringing pigs back into it this time – we’ve had a bit of a break from pigs because they become a bit problematic but we miss them so we have brought pigs back. Just more of farm chaos really!”
They also revealed that there would be re-runs of the previous series on ITV1 in the 7.30pm weeknight slot that’s now been freed up by Emmerdale as it shifts to a later time.
“We’re the new Emmerdale basically,” Liz chuckled. “On a Monday night they’re going to show shorter versions of series one, two and three.”
Kelvin added: “It’s a bit of a catch up, a bit of a rejig, so if you’ve been under a rock for the past couple of years, this is what you’ve missed.”
