Why isn’t Coronation Street on ITVX or ITV tonight? Soap schedule for this week amid shake-up
Those who are looking for their Coronation Street fix, whether that be on ITVX and YouTube from 7am, or on ITV tonight, will be disappointed.
Fans of the ITV soap know that for the past year, the ITV soap has been available to stream episodes early. More recently, the episodes have also become available on YouTube from 7am, giving viewers more way to watch all the drama unfolding in Weatherfield.
But as those who follow the long-running show also know, it was last month that a new scheduling pattern was launched for both Corrie and Emmerdale, with the change marked with the historic crossover dubbed Corriedale.
The ‘soap power hour’ runs from Monday to Friday, with 30-minute Emmerdale episodes at 8pm, and 30-minute Coronation Street episodes at 8.30pm.
However, this week, Corrie will return to its former Monday, Wednesday and Friday pattern. On Tuesday (February 3) night, after airing as normal on Monday (February 2), there’s no episode with ITV instead airing live coverage of the EFL Cup.
Corrie is back on Wednesday (February 4) in its usual slot of 8.30pm to 9pm, but Thursday (February 5) coverage of the Six Nations Live will replace what would normally be the penultimate visit to Weatherfield of the week. But all is back to normal on Friday (February 6) as the final episode of the week once again airs between 8.30pm and 9pm.
Iain MacLeod, ITV’s Executive Producer for Continuing Drama, previously shared that the change has been made to the previous Corrie and Emmerdale schedules to accommodate busy viewers, alongside the previous decision to upload each episode online from 7am on the day of transmission.
“If you’re trying to fit an episode of soap into your day, if you work from home, or you work part time, or maybe you want to watch your soap in the evening, it’s much easier to do that if it’s a half hour transmission, rather than an hour long transmission,” he said. “So, it’s way more digestible. It’s the right length of soap, in my humble opinion, it’s what soap started as.

“And yeah, I think it definitely will be easier for people now, especially as they move more towards ITVX, to pick up a half hour of Corrie or a half hour of Emmerdale and fit it in before they’re due to come and collect their kid from school, fit in on their lunch hour if they’re working from home, or watch it on the tram into work if they want to on their phone. So, yeah, the effort we’re making is to try and align what we’re offering with how people consume TV these days.”
