Emmerdale fans floored by Jimmy King star’s past ITV drama role

Andrew Scarborough discusses Graham’s dark past on Emmerdale

Emmerdale fans have been left floored by Jimmy King star Nick Miles’s past ITV drama role. The 63-year-old actor made his debut in the Dales as Jimmy in 2004, arriving alongside his brothers Matthew (Matt Healy), Max (Charlie Kemp) and Carl (Tom Lister), as well as his father Tom (Ken Farrington).

Jimmy has endured considerable hardship within the village, witnessing the deaths of all his siblings and his father. He’s also been embroiled in numerous commercial ventures, a bitter dispute with the Sugden family, and suffered a stabbing by Daz Eden (Luke Tittensor) after an arson incident he initiated.

Beyond this, the character also weathered his marriage collapse with Sadie King (Patsy Kensit), before tying the knot with Nicola Blackstock (Nicola Wheeler) and becoming a parent during his later years. During 2024, Jimmy became entangled in a distressing plot when his nephew Tom (James Chase) started physically and emotionally abusing his wife Belle Dingle (Eden Taylor-Draper). Jimmy initially remained blind to the reality, but ultimately challenged Tom and stood by Belle throughout Tom’s court proceedings, reports the Daily Star.

Drama persisted for Jimmy last year when his son Carl Holliday (Charlie Joyce) distributed an inappropriate photograph of Clemmie Reed (Mabel Addison) via a school group chat. The scandal emerged after Clemmie’s brother, Lucas Taylor (Noah Ryan Aspinall), hit Carl during school hours.

Away from the Dales, actor Nick Miles has featured in numerous other television programmes, including Heartbeat, Peak Practice, Silent Witness and Casualty.

Now, several Emmerdale enthusiasts have discovered Nick’s 1990s stint in police drama The Bill, where he portrayed Chief Superintendent Guy Mannion. He appeared in 13 episodes spanning 1999 to 2001. Guy notably served at the neighbouring Barton Street police station, crossing paths with Sun Hill officers during a training course.

Posting a photograph of the star’s appearance on Reddit, one fan commented: “If anyone used to watch The Bill, Nick Miles once starred in it, playing Chief Superintendent Guy Mannion during the 90s.”

They then joked: “Wonder if [he] would have done better than the Hotten Police, given what we’ve seen recently?” Another viewer remarked: “Not as menacing (looking) in his older age. Got a real glint in his eye there when in The Bill,” whilst a third commented: “Omg totally forgot about this!”

A fourth observer pointed out: “I think there was some rivalry between him and the older ones at Sunhill because he was so young. It was quite funny.”

Nick wasn’t the only Emmerdale cast member to feature at Sun Hill police station, as Moira Dingle and Ruby Miligan actresses Natalie J Robb and Beth Cordingly also have credits in The Bill, alongside Celia Daniels star Jaye Griffiths. Jaye recently departed her role as Celia following the villain’s murder by her son, Ray Walters (Joe Absolom), on New Year’s Day. Celia’s corpse was discovered on Moira’s property last week, signalling difficulties ahead for the cherished farmer.
