ITV Coronation Street fans go wild as Tony Maudsley shares snap with ‘queen of the cobbles’
Coronation Street fans all said the same thing as Tony Maudsley shared a photo of himself alongside the “queen of the cobbles”. The Kirkby actor first appeared in Weatherfield in 2020 as George Shuttleworth and he quickly became one of Coronation Street’s most important characters.
Viewers have grown to love George and Glenda’s brother and sister bond over the last few years. But George has had a turbulent time in the cobbles in recent months following his partner Eileen Grimshaw’s sudden exit.
Tony regularly keeps his fans updated on his busy life away from the cameras. Soap fans were quick to express their excitement when he shared a selfie alongside Carla Connor actress Alison King, who viewers have named the “queen of the cobbles”.
Tony posted the cosy selfie, which sees the two stars pouting, with the caption: “The undisputed Queen Carla” with a queen’s crown emoji and red love heart emoji.
Taking to the comments, one soap fan said: “Love this photo of you and Alison” while another added: “Looking good George and Carla.”
More added to the comments on Instagram, with many fans in agreement that Alison King is indeed the “queen” of Coronation Street. One soap fan said: “Carla Connor, queen of Corrie always – we love Ali.”
A second wrote: “QUEEN ALI!!!!!” with heart eyes emojis. A third said: “Queen of the Cobbles right there” and a fourth joked: “Nice picture of the Queen and the Undertaker!”
George Shuttleworth was recently thrown right into the centre of the drama as Tyrone Dobbs fell victim to a horrific hit and run accident. However, George was convinced he had witnessed who was driving the car and visited Brody and Dylan to accuse them of being responsible for the frightening accident.
Meanwhile, Alison King’s character Carla has been part of one of the most iconic storylines in Coronation Street history. Viewers were sobbing when DS Lisa Swain proposed to Carla earlier this month.
Heartfelt scenes saw the couple pop the all-important question outside Underworld, surrounded by their friends, as well as Betsy and Ryan there to support.
Lisa and Carla recently purchased a house on Coronation Street, making history as the first same sex couple to do so. However, their lives were turned upside down following the recent surprise arrival of Becky Swain, who was supposedly killed four years ago.
Carla is still coming to terms with the bombshell news that her fiancé’s ex-wife is in fact still alive. Viewers are continuing to make their guesses if Becky will try to ruin Carla’s relationship, or if Lisa and Carla will get their happily ever after.
