Coronation Street legend Helen Worth returning to Manchester for special night with former co-star

Coronation Street legend Helen Worth has confirmed her return to Manchester as she’s set to take part in a special evening that will see her quizzed on her epic tenure on the cobbles by one of her former co-stars.

As fans of the ITV soap know, the actress bowed out of playing Weatherfield stalwart Gail Platt on Christmas Day 2025, 50 years after she made her debut in 1984, then as Potter.

Confirming her exit after celebrating her golden anniversary on the cobbles in the summer of 2024, Helen said: “This year felt like the perfect time to leave the show after celebrating 50 years in the most wonderful job on the most wonderful street in the world. I made the decision at the start of the year and spoke to the producers who were very kind and understanding.

“I have been truly blessed to have been given the most incredible scripts week in week out, and to have worked with fantastic actors, directors and a brilliant crew. The past 50 years have flown by and I don’t think the fact that I am leaving has quite sunk in yet.”

In Gail’s final scenes, the iconic character married Jesse Chadwick and shared some emotional moments with her family, particularly her children David, Sarah and Nick, before leaving the cobbles.

Now, Helen is heading back to the city where she made her name. Hope Mill Theatre announced on Friday (February 6) that they’ll be hosting a very special ‘An Evening With’ Helen, hosted by fellow Wetherfield legend Julie Hesmondhalgh, who Corrie fans will remember for playing the much-loved Hayley Cropper.

The one-off event, set to take place on Sunday, March 29, at 6pm, will raise funds for Hope Mill Theatre and its community outreach programmes. Tickets are on sale to Hope Mill Theatre members now, and go on general sale at 10am on Monday, February 9.

Fans are invited to join Helen as she sits down in her first live in conversation with, chatting about her incredible 50 year legacy playing Gail Platt.

Helen said: “I’m really looking forward to coming back to Manchester for a good old chat with Julie, especially as it’s in support of Hope Mill Theatre.”

Joseph Houston, Artistic Director of Hope Mill, added: “We are thrilled and honoured to have the legendary Helen Worth in her first ever live in-person conversation about her incredible career. There is no denying the cultural impact the character of Gail Platt had over her 50 year spell on the Cobbles and we can’t wait to have audiences come and hear Helen share her story, all in support of Hope Mill Theatre.

“The cherry on the cake is having longterm Hope Mill supporter Julie Hesmondhalgh leading the evening. It really is an event not to be missed.”
