Coronation Street’s Tyrone Dobbs’ future confirmed after hit and run horror

Coronation Street fans were left reeling recently when beloved character Tyrone Dobbs was dramatically unveiled as the casualty of a devastating hit and run incident.

The ITV soap stalwart and garage worker has been left facing life-altering injuries after being struck by a vehicle which veered to dodge teenager Betsy Swain near Weatherfield precinct.

Recent episodes disclosed that the mechanic has sustained a serious spinal trauma and confronts an arduous journey towards recovery, heartbreakingly confessing to spouse Fiz that he cannot sense or move his legs.

And while the household grapples with accepting what lies ahead, officers have focused their efforts on tracking down the motorist responsible for causing the devastating harm.

Following this fresh plotline, soap enthusiasts have expressed concern regarding Tyrone’s fate and his continued presence on the famous street, reports the Liverpool Echo.

Nevertheless, This Morning’s soap specialist Sharon Marshall provided reassurance during Wednesday’s broadcast of the ITV morning programme.

Presenter Cat Deeley enquired: “So will Tyrone be okay?” to which Sharon, 53, assured viewers: “Well, a long-running story, a long-running story about recovery…”, confirming Tyrone will remain on the cobbles for the foreseeable future.

This development follows the revelation that Carl Webster was identified as the motorist responsible for the hit and run during a chilling flashback sequence.

In even more disturbing scenes, Carl torched the vehicle and brazenly visited Tyrone whilst he was hospitalised. Alan Halsall, who has portrayed Tyrone since 1998, recently opened up about his character’s storyline.

The Spinal Injuries Association charity has been advising the production team on how to accurately depict Tyrone’s journey following his accident.

Alan revealed: “Sometimes people get to read about your storylines going forward in the press, but obviously this one isn’t, and I think it will have caught people by surprise.

“We are ten weeks on from filming it and no one knew. Obviously no one was expecting it to be Tyrone that actually got hit in the end, so I think it would have been a real shock. It’s always good to keep the audience on their toes. I look forward to watching it and seeing people’s reactions.”

He continued: “As you can probably imagine, Tyrone’s first thoughts are confusion. He can’t really remember what’s happened, he doesn’t know why he’s in the hospital. And then as he’s coming round and he’s clearly in lots of pain, he has this realisation that something isn’t quite right and he can’t feel his legs. There’s just a hell of a lot of fear, wondering how he’s got there, why he’s feeling like this. He is terrified.”

Discussing the future, Alan said: “I think overall there’s just this fear and trepidation of what this is going to bring and how his life is going to look after this accident. He will want to be strong for the family but that is going to be difficult.”

He further shared: “Initially, there is a concern that he might not get up at all. There’s real fear there, and not just fear from Tyrone but fear from Fiz and the kids and his mum and gran. They don’t know if he’ll walk again or how life is going to look going forward. But he knows they will all try to stick together and face what the future holds.”
