Jacob’s confidence shattered in Emmerdale as bullying boss ups her campaign
Jacob Gallagher (Joe-Warren Plant) has a lot going on in Emmerdale – training to be a doctor, baby on the way, a wife who steals cars to help her ailing grandad make ends meet.
Add on that the boss from hell and Jacob has the icing on the cake.
Dr Todd was leading his placement back when his mum Leyla died, and when he made the awful mistake of telling Marlon Dingle (Mark Charnock) his daughter was dead in a case of mistaken identity.
It seems Dr Todd has not forgotten his failure to do a good job around these events, and plans to give him a hard time – while perhaps also being threatened by his skill. ‘At the risk of sounding like a broken record,’ she said, before telling him for the umpteenth time that it’s his own fault she’s hard on him because he’s just so damn good.
Some weird kind of victim blaming going on there.

Jacob then found himself in a heck of an awkward situation when he spoke frankly about his boss being so hard on him, only to find her standing behind him listening.
On the surface, she and Manpreet Sharma (Rebecca Sarker) joked that he’s not the first and won’t be the last to make such disparaging comments, but it was as obvious that she planned to use this to fuel her campaign against him, immediately demanding five research proposals on her desk by the next morning.
An impossible task.
Dr Todd cornered him by offering him a spot on her mentorship programme in front of his nearest and dearest, knowing he couldn’t turn it down – then used this to turn the screws by preventing him from doing his actual coursework by guilt-tripping him into doing work for her.

As well as this insane work pressure, Jacob is also coping with his wife’s lies and the outcome that Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) has cancer. He’s not exactly hyper focused on this important task.
But now the mentorship is underway, and Dr Todd has turned up the dial on her nastiness.
