Call the Midwife’s Olly Rix announces engagement to Casualty co-star

Call the Midwife star Olly Rix has announced his engagement to his Casualty co-star Anna Chell. Taking to social media, Rix, who is known for his role as Matthew Aylward on Call the Midwife, shared the happy news with fans.

Posting on Instagram on Monday, Rix shared a selfie in which he can be seen kissing Chell’s forehead. He captioned the post with an engagement ring and love heart emoji.

Following his departure from Call the Midwife in 2024, Rix joined BBC medical drama Casualty in early 2025 where he met Chell. Rix stars as surgeon Flynn Byron, while Chell plays nurse Jodie Whyte.

The couple confirmed their relationship last year after going Instagram official in a post that thrilled fans.

Taking to the comment section of Rix’s post following yesterday’s update, fans and the couple’s co-stars congratulated the pair while sharing their delight at the news.

Sammy Dobson, who plays Casualty‘s Nicole Piper, commented: “ARGHHHH!!!! THIS IS SO, SO LUSH!!! Congratulations!!!”

Melanie Hill, who plays nurse manager Siobhan McKenzie, penned: “So made up for the pair of you lovebirds!!”

Faith Dean star Kirsty Mitchell simply said the news was “perfect” and Michelle Keegan, who starred alongside Rix in the BBC military drama Our Girl, said: “Awww wonderful news. So happy for you Ols. Congratulations to you both.”

Fans were equally thrilled with the post, with one fan writing: “Best news! Roll on the wedding”, while another added: “Congratulations to you both, lots of love and happiness xx.”
