Coronation Street fans were quick to make the same observation as they responded to Carla Connor being ‘missing’ from the long-running show’s latest scenes, despite getting quite the surprise last week.
Those who tuned into the ITV soap weren’t as surprised as the Underworld factory boss, who opened the door of her home, No.6, and was shocked to find a baby in a car seat on the doorstep.
Carla’s fiancée, Lisa Swain, was seen going after the woman who left her as she was hurrying away, only to discover the baby was Connie, the daughter of Carla’s brother, Rob Donovan, and prison guard Mandy, who fans were involved in Rob’s jailbreak and Carla’s kidnapping last year.
Despite being sweet with the baby at first, when Carla found out it’s Rob and Mandy’s baby and that she’s agreed that they’ll look after her, Lisa was very surprised by her fiancée’s reaction. Carla was adamant that Connie couldn’t stay and said that her grandmother couldn’t just leave her on the doorstep like she did.
It wasn’t until later that Carla shared how she was really feeling, telling her future wife about how she suffered a miscarriage in 2014. She opened up to Lisa about once being pregnant, with ex-husband Peter Barlow’s baby, and was excitedly looking forward to becoming a mum to a little girl, before suffering the heartbreaking loss.

But it didn’t take long for Carla to take Connie under her wing, with the help of Lisa and her neighbours, even if Sally Metcalfe’s input did leave the couple rolling their eyes a few times.
However, as a new week in Weatherfield got underway, Carla, Lisa and baby Connie were nowhere to be seen. But that didn’t stop them being mentioned as during Monday’s (March 9) episode, David Platt was heard talking to his wife, Shona Platt, about hearing a baby cry, to which she said neighbour Carla had “borrowed” the baby for a bit.
And the scenes tickled Corrie viewers, with some making and observation about Carla, who will have been on the cobbles 20 years this year. @molly_pw11240 said: “I always love when #CarlaConnor gets a mention on #Corrie when she’s not on an episode. #Swarla.” @TheConnorSwains commented: “Carla may not be on screen but doesn’t stop her being the talk of the street…#Swarla #Corrie.”
@Izzy1728047 posted: “I love how casual Shona says ‘No it’s Carla’s’ like it’s the most obvious thing in the world and David is slow to the mark #Swarla I love the lowkey Platt & Connor-Swain rivalry.” @LadyReignFC wrote: “Shona said Carla’s borrowed a baby. The concept of borrowing a baby but even worse Carla Connor borrowing a baby, she would never willingly do that #corrie.” @Bo88797665 added: “Not Shona and David laughing about Carla having Baby Connie around. #Corrie.”
