Casualty has cast a familiar Brookside face for the ongoing Dylan and Matty paternity storyline. The plot has seen the arrival of resident doctor Matty, who Dylan realised is the son of a woman he was involved with back at medical school. After sneakily getting a sample of Matty’s DNA to check if he is his son, the results were revealed last week – with confirmation that he is indeed the father.
Following on from this, a new patient called Malcolm will enter the ED in this Saturday’s episode, who is caught in the brewing tension between Matty and Dylan.
It has now been confirmed that Michael Starke – known for playing Sinbad on Brookside and now sporadically popping up in Hollyoaks as the character – will take on the role.
In this weekend’s scenes, Malcolm is given over to Matty and Dylan in resus, though when Matty makes a small mistake while trying to clear out a wound, Dylan is overly hostile towards him.
Stevie then speaks to Dylan, wondering if he is going to keep pretending to an unaware Matty that he doesn’t know he is his real father.
However, their chat is short-lived when Matty confirms their patient has become more alert.
Dylan then questions Malcolm over whether his car crash was deliberate in an attempt to self-harm. Matty and Dylan are at odds over Malcolm, with the former believing his confusion, while the latter scoffs.
Later on, Malcolm loses consciousness, which spurs Matty to investigate the cause. Stevie then overhears Matty admit to Kim that he is doubting himself amid Dylan’s harshness, and she pushes Dylan to take a different approach with his son.
However, Dylan leaves her shocked by saying he plans to tell Matty the truth, as he deserves to know – but will he go through with his plan?
