Casualty stars confirm big stunts and new faces when show is back on TV

BBC One medical drama Casualty is currently off air, and won’t return for quite a few months.

The final episode of the boxset Supply and Demand aired last month, and featured some devastating scenes involving beloved character Ngozi Okoye (Adesuwa Oni).

Ngozi had said goodbye to her friends at Holby City Hospital to return to Lagos. Her young son Obi previously told Ngozi that he wasn’t happy in England anymore, and wanted to go home.

Despite her relationship challenges with Nicole Piper (Sammy T Dobson), Ngozi had grown to love life at Holby and didn’t want to leave, but chose to do so for her son.

At the airport, Ngozi anxiously waited for her plane to get called. While this was happening, Nicole was chatting to Siobhan McKenzie (Melanie Hill). She had decided that she wanted to be with Ngozi after all, and needed to get to the airport before she left.

Siobhan raced Nicole across town, but a traffic jam outside the airport meant she was forced to run the rest of the way.

When Nicole arrived though, she found Obi on his own. In the toilets, Ngozi had fallen and hit her head after relapsing. Flashback scenes then confirmed Ngozi hid in the bathroom to try and miss the flight. After Nicole found her, Ngozi was rushed into the ED.

The instalment ended just as the team were continuing CPR on Ngozi. With the show due back in December, we have a little while to wait until we learn Ngozi’s fate.

In the meantime, Casualty stars have been dishing out the gossip to us, teasing what to expect when she show returns to our screens.

‘Obviously more of the same for my character, they’re always throwing me into the deep end’, Michael Stevenson, who plays Iain Dean, said.

‘I think there’s lots more to come for Faith and Iain, they’ve got a few problems to sort out along the way. There’s much more to come there.’

Also at this year’s Inside Soap Awards was Naomi Wakszlak, who plays young paramedic Indie Jankowski.

She told us: ‘There’s definitely some new things coming to the ED, which I think is going to be really exciting. New people and new characters to get to know and they’re really fun and interesting and different, which is nice. More stunts, obviously. Iain putting himself in danger, obviously. What else do you want?’.

William Beck, best known for his role as Dylan Keogh in the show, added: ‘We’re talking about things that happen after Christmas. If I told you what happens I think there’s a fairly strong likelihood I would be sanctioned. It’s so remarkable that I’m not sure my words can do it justice.’

After confirming some new faces would arrive in Holby ED as well, Will also hinted at more trouble for Dylan and Stevie Nash (Elinor Lawless):

‘I think we can say both Stevie and Dylan and others are put in a position they never thought they would be put in’, he said.

How intriguing!

Also in the boxset, Iain took centre stage in a storyline that saw him work at HART.

His life was put on the line many times, but the arc also saw him reach a conclusion about his marriage to Faith Cadogan (Kirsty Mitchell).

After accepting that he’s constantly driven by a need to save people, Iain admitted to Faith – a recovering drug addict – that he believes he’s only with her to act heroic.

It left her fearful their marriage would end for good – but the end of this storyline strand won’t be revealed until the show starts broadcasting again.

Elsewhere, Rash Masum’s (Neet Mohan) girlfriend Sunny (Jamie Marie Leary) was revealed as the person tampering with the hospital’s drug supply, while Flynn Byron (Olly Rix) opened up about his past, detailing the moment that saw his young son have life support withdrawn.
