Chilling Bear twist in early Emmerdale ITVX release as Paddy reels

The following article contains spoilers from the episode ofEmmerdale dated January 28. It hasn’t aired on ITV1 yet, but can be viewed on ITVX.

While Bear Wolf (Joshua Richards) is back home in Emmerdale, he sadly isn’t back to normal.

Last week, we learnt the truth about the events leading up to Ray Walters’ (Joe Absolom) murder, and who killed him.

After realising his future with Laurel Thomas (Charlotte Bellamy) was no more, Ray headed through the village and was met with an angry Paddy Kirk (Dominic Brunt), who wanted to know what had happened to his dad.

Ray told Paddy that Celia Daniels’ (Jaye Griffiths) killed Bear, and then furiously confronted Dylan Penders (Fred Kettle), the person who told Laurel about who Ray really was.

Believing the teen to be the reason his life had fallen apart, Ray planned to attack Dylan, but was stopped when Paddy entered Tenants.

Ray turned his anger on Paddy and started beating him. Dylan screamed at Ray to stop, but he eventually did when Bear entered the house.

The time to process Bear actually being alive didn’t last long for the trio, as Bear grabbed Ray to try and protect Paddy.

Bear wanted the noise to stop, but his poor mental state meant he failed to realise he was squeezing Ray’s neck incredibly hard. A few moments later, Ray was dead.

On Friday, we discovered what happened after this, and how Ray’s body eventually ended up in the back of Jai Sharma’s (Chris Bisson) depot van. In this instalment, Paddy and Dylan also agreed to feign ignorance around other people when it came to Bear, all with the intention of protecting the vulnerable man.

Lying to everyone was getting to Paddy as today’s episode opened. His best friend Marlon Dingle (Mark Charnock) was worried their dynamic had changed which meant Paddy was forced to try and reassure him, while pretending as though he’s still waiting for some news on Bear’s whereabouts.

The local vet then headed out of the village and arrived at a house in the middle of nowhere. Inside was Dylan, who had been telling Bear their cover up story again.

Because Dylan believed that Bear had got the cover story nailed, Paddy contemplated letting him out of the locked room. When he got inside and was reminded that his dad believes he had a genuine connection with Ray, Paddy began to struggle.

Paddy and Dylan reached the conclusion that Bear cannot come home yet due to how confused he still is, and how there’s every possibility he may reveal Ray’s murder and end up in prison.

As night fell, Paddy entered Bear’s room with a drink. However, when he got inside, he found the window wide open, and his dad missing.

‘It’s a painful process and I’m looking forward to the complexities with the writers and producers and the directors to find out where the journey goes next and what pathways we’re going to go down.

‘We’ve just been filming stuff already today and I’ve been shouting at Paddy. So maybe he’s getting back to his old self if he’s shouting at people! But he’s still not right and this will take some time.’
