COMEDY GOLD OR TOTAL CHAOS? THE PUB COLLAPSE THAT HAS EVERYONE HOWLING!
Coronation Street fans were left in hysterics over a character’s dramatic collapse in the Rovers Return – branding the moment ‘comedy gold’.
Maggie Driscoll – played by Father Ted legend Pauline McLynn – arrived on the cobbles in October 2025.
Now a co-owner of the iconic Rovers Return pub, she has clashed with Eva Price (Catherine Tyldesley) – whose partner is Maggie’s son Ben (Aaron McCusker).
In Tuesday’s (January 20) episode, viewers were left amused by a scene with Maggie, Eva and the latter’s half-sister Leanne (Jane Danson).
Leanne offered to buy out Maggie’s stake in the pub for £160,000, only to be declined.
Seeing an opportunity afterwards, Maggie dramatically staged a fall and claimed Leanne shoved her.
Taking to social media, Coronation Street fans shared their reactions as Maggie Driscoll caused trouble with Leanne Battersby
After Maggie rejected Leanne’s offer to buy out her stake in the Rovers Return, she dramatically staged a fall – claiming Leanne shoved her
Meanwhile, Leanne looked mortified as she realised in the moment what Maggie was trying to do
She even asked barmaid Lauren Bolton (Cait Fitton) to back up, only she rolled her eyes.
Reacting to the moment, one viewer wrote on X: ‘This whole scene had me absolutely howling.
‘The dramatic, slow mo fall. The wailing. The utter ‘cant be done with this b******t’ on Lauren’s face. Leanne and Eve being like ‘what the f**k?’

Another took a different view, as they penned: ‘Sorry but that Maggie falling to the floor scene was just waaay too pantomime and ridiculous, i cannot stand the woman!!’
A third added: ‘Well I think that was the point if it, she was pretending to fall to cause trouble.’
While Metro’s Soaps/Drama editor Duncan Lindsay weighed in: ‘I wholeheartedly defend Maggie’s falling over a stool scene in #Corrie.
Fans were divided over the dramatic moment, with some comparing it to ‘pantomime’
‘I do not apologise or accept any counter-arguments That is all.’
Elsewhere, it has been teased the carnage of the Coronation Street and Emmerdale crossover will continue to rumble on in Weatherfield.
Airing earlier this month, Corriedale saw the two soap worlds collide with an explosive special, as part of a revamped but reduced schedule for the series’.
The crossover saw characters from both the soaps meeting face-to-face in the one-off episode – which show bosses joked was ‘like the Marvel multiverse assembling’.
Now, the drama is set to roll on – with a teaser trailer released to ITV, who say that ‘the end was just the beginning’ as the ‘secrets and lies refuse to stay buried’.
Maggie (Pauline McLynn) joined the ITV soap in October 2025 along with son Ben (Aaron McCusker) and his partner, the returning Eva Price (Catherine Tyldesley)
Coronation Street’s Weatherfield will be left dealing with the fall out of the high speed crash that was seen during the Corriedale crossover.
The new promo teases the impact of the devastating collision.
Upcoming episodes will see Corrie’s characters come to terms with the losses suffered, and those involved battling to keep their secrets and murderous intent from being exposed.
With Billy’s funeral approaching, following the long-running character, played by Daniel Brocklebank, being killed off in a devastating car crash Theo (James Cartwright) will struggle to bury his guilt.
While the character at first appeared to be helping Billy escape the vehicle he was trapped inside, which set on fire, Theo instead strapped him in and left him to die in the explosion.
Dealing with having taken a man’s life, and battling his guilty conscience, Theo will stand over Billy’s coffin to express how sorry he is for leaving him to die.
But as a door slams, and Theo races out horrified that someone has been watching him, it soon becomes clear that another person has overheard his confession.
Meanwhile, having made it through her premature labour, Shona (Julia Goulding) is living on the edge, praying that baby Harper will pull through as she awaits her life-saving surgery.
But as she and David Platt (Jack P. Shepherd) cling on to hope, Shona will be blindsided by a blast from the past, as her sister Jodie turns up.
Jodie (Olivia Frances-Brown), who was introduced during the Corriedale crossover, was seen running through the woods with her wrists bound having escaped from a terrifying captor.
The trailer teases that Jodie may not be all that she seems, and could be hiding something from her sister – and even after something from her.
Coronation Street airs on ITV1 and is available to stream on ITVX.
