This article contains spoilers for tonight’s Coronation Street, which has not yet aired on TV but is available to watch now on ITVX and YouTube.

Last night’s Corriedale was an absolute treat for soap fans everywhere, but the drama continued in Coronation Street today in the aftermath of the epic pile-up.

Caught in the centre of the carnage were Shona Platt (Julia Goulding), whose waters broke after the collision, and David Platt (Jack P Shepherd), who suffered a seizure after collapsing in hospital.

At 28 weeks pregnant, Shona was terrified when she couldn’t feel her baby moving. Thankfully, Emmerdale’s trainee doctor Jacob Gallagher (Joe-Warren Plant) was on hand to help and managed to get the baby to kick.

However, things escalated quickly when Shona began experiencing contractions, before her waters broke while waiting in the hospital corridor.

This was made all the more worrying by the fact that Shona and David’s baby girl needs a special procedure before she is born, to remove a mass from her neck.

In tonight’s episode, Shona was on edge when the doctor informed her that she was being transferred to Weatherfield General in order to undergo the procedure and deliver her baby.

She was understandably nervous, given that her surgeon had wanted both Shona and the baby to be in the best shape possible, as the surgery was a risky one for both of them.

It didn’t help that she hadn’t had an update on David’s condition, having last seen him collapsed on the floor.

Fortunately, David chose that moment to waltz into the room, full of reassurances and jokes as he attempted to keep his wife calm.

Sister Sarah Platt (Tina O’Brien) wasn’t so convinced by his bravado and quietly pointed out that it had been a while since his last seizure. However, David assured her that he was completely fine.

David was diagnosed with epilepsy in 2010, after being accused of deliberately hitting Graeme Proctor with his car. It later transpired that he had had a seizure behind the wheel and his diagnosis was confirmed.

As David wheeled Shona through the corridor, they drew the eye of Jodie (Olivia Frances-Brown) – a character who has had fans speculating ever since she appeared on the Corriedale cast list.

She made her first appearance in Corriedale last night in a terrifying predicament – tied up in the back of dead Emmerdale villain Graham Foster’s van.

Yes, Graham is alive and had a hostage in his van, but we’re going to brush past that for now and focus on Jodie herself.

Jodie managed to escape her restraints and took off running into the woods, where she was eventually found by Kit Green (Jacob Roberts).

It was there that we spotted the tattoo of a tree on her arm, which was a perfect match to one Shona has on her back.

And now it seems that it is more than just a coincidence, if the way Jodie watched Shona pass her in the hospital is anything to go by. Even the doctor mentioned that she looked like she’d seen a ghost.

So, it is clear that there is some sort of major connection between Jodie and Shona, though exactly what that is has yet to be revealed. It hasn’t escaped fans notice that they look very similar – could they be related in some way?

We know that Shona has a sister who has never been named. Could that be Jodie? Or are they connected in a way that isn’t by blood?

In upcoming scenes, Jodie will continue to cross paths with David and Shona, and next week sees her being introduced to the wider Platt family.

Jodie’s connection to Shona is just one of many questions we have about the mysterious newcomer. How did she end up in the back of Graham’s van and why? Will she be sticking around?

When the doctor informed Jodie that the police were looking for her, she looked briefly worried, until she reassured her that they were just concerned given the condition she arrived at the hospital in.

Next week, Shona spots the bruising on Jodie’s wrists, and she makes out that she ended up in the crash while trying to escape an abusive relationship, but is this the truth?
