Coronation Street Ken Barlow’s new cobbles romance ‘unveiled’ 10 years after Deirdre
Coronation Street legend Ken Barlow could be set for a new romance, according to fans.
The soap legend, played by William Roache, has been a staple on the cobbles since his debut in 1960 when the actor was only 28 years old – and it didn’t take him long to become a firm favourite with fans.
As the longest-serving character on the show, Ken has been involved in several big storylines, and it’s fair to say the Weatherfield ladies’ man has arguably had the most chequered love life.
Ken has dated numerous women and been married four times over the years. In 1962, he married Valerie Tatlock (Anne Reid), who was killed by an electric shock at home. He then married Janet Reid (Judith Barker) in 1972.
Keeping himself busy, Ken has also fathered four children Lawrence (Linus Roache), Susan, Peter Barlow (Joanna Foster) and Daniel (Rob Mallard) and his adopted daughter Tracy Barlow (Kate Ford).
But it was his decades-long marriage with Deirdre (Anne Kirkbride) that Ken is probably best known for. The pair were together on and off for several years and were married twice, in 1981 and 2005.
However, Deirdre sadly died in 2015, leaving Ken heartbroken. She was expected home on her 60th birthday but instead her friend showed up and broke the news to Ken and Tracy that Deirdre had passed away that morning.

But now, soap fans can’t help but think a new unexpected romance is in the cards for Ken as he is about to find love again – and it’s with a fellow cobbles resident.
On a Coronation Street Facebook fan page, some viewers have predicted newcomer Maggie Driscoll (Pauline McLynn) as his new love interest.
In Friday’s episode (October 31), the pair met for the first time at his home when Ken’s granddaughter Amy Barlow (Elle Mulvaney) offered to lend Maggie a bowl for a Halloween party.
However, picking up on a ‘moment’ between Brenda and Ken, one person wrote: “Ken and Maggie romance looming then.” Someone else said: “I thought this.” Echoing their thoughts, another penned: “Go on Ken!” A fourth declared: “That would be a sweet relationship!”
