Coronation Street star lets slip behind-the-scenes secret as he admits ‘it was classic’
Coronation Street star Sam Aston has let slip a behind-the-scenes secret as he admitted “it was classic”.
Sam, who plays Chesney Brown on the ITV soap, was among the actors who took part in the opening night of the An Audience with Coronation Street tour on Sunday (September 14).
He was joined on stage by fellow cast members Patti Clare (Mary Taylor), Jimmi Harkishin (Dev Alahan), Jane Danson (Leanne Battersby) and Barbara Knox (Rita Tanner), as well as host Sharon Marshall.
Speaking after the show, Sam exclusively revealed: “It was such a laugh being up on the West End stage at the Dominion Theatre, swapping stories with the cast and being in front of Corrie fans.”
The 32-year-old actor went on to share a hilarious on-set story involving Jack Duckworth star Bill Tarmey, which has stuck with him for years.

“I’ve got so many great memories from growing up on the Street, but sharing the one that always makes me smile was when Bill Tarmey, who was a legend in every way, turned to me when I was about 12 and said, ‘Sam, make sure you get yourself on that ITV pension… I was 12!'” Sam said.
“It was classic Bill, funny, but also looking out for me. To be able to share moments like that with everyone in the room was just brilliant.”
Jane Danson added: “I absolutely loved being on stage at the Dominion Theatre with everyone, it felt really special. I even dug out my old scrapbooks from when I first joined Corrie at 18.
“One of the articles back then had this big photoshoot where they called me ‘Street Spice’ which gave us all a good laugh!
“It was such a joy to share those memories, but also to be there with my lovely friends from the show and to have such a giggle with Sharon Marshall hosting. It was just a really fun night all round.”
