Coronation Street Theo actor’s real-life heartbreak as he reveals triple family loss

Coronation Street’s Theo Silverton star James Cartwright has revealed his personal anguish, confessing this festive season will “feel empty”.

James became part of the ITV soap this year as Theo Silverton, Todd Grimshaw’s (Gareth Pierce) fresh romantic interest – with chemistry quickly igniting between the duo.

Yet Theo’s darker nature soon emerged as he began systematically manipulating and controlling Todd for months, seeking to dominate every facet of his existence. Fearful of his partner’s capabilities, Todd secretly installed surveillance equipment throughout their residence.

This month witnessed a groundbreaking special episode told entirely through recording technology – from Todd’s covert cameras to CCTV clips, dashcam footage, video doorbell material and police body cameras.

Beyond his soap role, James recently discussed losing three cherished family members, revealing how bereavement is affecting his Christmas celebrations, reports the Mirror.

“Very sadly, this year, we’ve lost both our dogs,” he explained to Metro. James continued: “And last year we lost my grandad, who was my best friend, just before Christmas. The house will feel very empty, so to combat that, we’re going out for Christmas dinner for the first time ever.”

Outlining his festive arrangements, James shared: “We’ll wake up in the morning with all the family, we’ll open our presents, we’ll get our best suits on, and then we’ll go out for something to eat.

“Mum will have an egg nogg, Dad will have a sparkling water and me, my brother and sister will probably get giddy on buzzballs.”

The TV personality then shared cherished memories of his grandad during the festive season. He revealed: “My favourite memories are from when my dear grandad was still with us. To me those were the best Christmases because it was a full dinner table and lots of laughter.”

Following James’ heartbreaking tale of triple family tragedy, supporters on Facebook flocked to offer their condolences. One individual commented: “I’m so sorry for your loss,” whilst another wrote: “That’s so sad.”

Additionally, it emerges that show business is in James’ blood, as his father is the acclaimed writer and dramatist Jim Cartwright. Jim has crafted an impressive body of work throughout his career, most famously the 1992 play The Rise and Fall of Little Voice, which became a film in 1998 featuring Jane Horrocks and Michael Caine.

Throughout the years, James has collaborated with his renowned father on numerous occasions. In 2009, he appeared in the West End revival of his dad’s play The Rise and Fall of Little Voice, playing the character Billy.
