We do love a real-life soap couple! However, some are better-known than others – and Coronation Street fans have been shocked to learn that Izzy Armstrong actress Cherylee Houston is married to a familiar face from TV.
Since arriving on the cobbles in 2010 as Andy Whyment‘s character Kirk Sunderland’s love interest, 51-year-old Cherylee has established herself as a beloved character amongst the show’s cast. The Underworld machinist has featured in several big storylines, including a romance with Mikey North‘s Gary and a dramatic two-month prison sentence.
However, fans have recently been shocked to learn that Cherylee is married to Toby Hadoke, also 51, who has appeared in programmes including Emmerdale, Shameless, Peter Kay’s Phoenix Nights – and, you guessed it, Coronation Street.

Additionally, he runs the Manchester comedy venue XS Malarkey, the nine-time winner of Chortle’s Best Comedy Club award for the north of England. The not-for-profit venue has given breaks to stars including Jason Manford and Celebrity Traitors star Alan Carr, to name just two.
Couple Cherylee and Toby’s professional worlds collided in 2021 when he appeared in Coronation Street as Fergus, a thoughtful neighbour checking on Izzy throughout the pandemic. His character drew attention to the difficulties experienced by the disabled during the national health emergency.

Toby has spoken enthusiastically about working alongside Cherylee, declaring: “She’s great as well. She’s such a good actor. I think it’s forgotten because she’s so brilliant at bringing attention to the importance of disability representation, she’s really good.”
Toby previously revealed his Corrie connection, saying: “If you delve into the archives you know, I once married Curly Watts. I was a vicar,” before adding: “They wanted a young vicar at Curly Watts’ wedding. If you go back it was about 747 years ago. That was just a one-off.”

Followers of a Corrie Facebook group were left surprised to discover the romantic connection between Cherylee and Toby. A photograph of the pair prompted numerous comments.
One follower asked: “How come I recognise him?” Another replied: “Toby Hadoke! He’s an actor/writer/standup comedian.”
The news shocked others: “I remember him from Corrie I think, didn’t know at the time they were together.” Another commented: “Same! Think he was in Hollyoaks as well.”
