Coronation Street’s Lucy Fallon explains co-star’s absence after reunion with soap legend
The Bethany Platt actress and her on-screen family enjoyed a reunion with a soap legend
Coronation Street star Lucy Fallon has been seen explaining the absence of one of her co-stars as she and her on-screen family enjoyed a reunion with a soap legend.
The actress, who is best known for playing Bethany Platt in the ITV soap, was seen supporting Helen Worth as she headed back to the city where she made her name, taking to the stage at the city’s Hope Mill Theatre for a a very special ‘An Evening With’ Helen, hosted by fellow Weatherfield legend Julie Hesmondhalgh, who Corrie fans will remember for playing the much-loved Hayley Cropper.
The event, on Sunday (March 29), came 15 months after Helen’s final scenes on the cobbles aired in December 2024. Fans were left shocked in the summer of 2024 when the actress announced her plans to bow out of playing Gail Platt after 50 years in the role.
Speaking of her exit at the time, Helen said: “This year felt like the perfect time to leave the show after celebrating 50 years in the most wonderful job on the most wonderful street in the world. I made the decision at the start of the year and spoke to the producers who were very kind and understanding.
“I have been truly blessed to have been given the most incredible scripts week in week out, and to have worked with fantastic actors, directors and a brilliant crew. The past 50 years have flown by and I don’t think the fact that I am leaving has quite sunk in yet.”
Returning to now and as well as fans in the audience for her ‘Audience With’, Helen was supported by her former co-stars, Jack P Shepherd and Tina O’Brien, who are famed for playing Gail’s children, David and Sarah Platt, as well as Lucy and Julia Goulding, who plays Shona Platt in the long-running show.
On Monday (March 30), Tina took to Instagram with a smiling snap of them all together, as well as a picture of Helen on stage with Julie. Alongside the post, she wrote: “Beautiful evening last night with the Platt’s watching an interview with Helen worth. Such a special venue at @hopemilltheatre and gorgeous listening to Helen and @jhesmondhalgh talking all things about the iconic character Gail.”
Later, Lucy shared the same snap, as well as another of just her, Helen, Tina and Julia, which she captioned on Instagram: “My platts [heart emoji].” She then explained: “Minus our ben who was stuck on the motorway,” referring to Corrie’s Nick Tilsley star, Ben Price.
Corrie’s Sam Blakeman actor Jude Riordan was quick to respond, commented: “LOVE ITTTTT [heart emoji],” while Hollyoaks actress Jorgie Porter replied: “Obsessed,” before adding a heart eyes emoji.
Fans were also quick to respond. @__claresw__ said: “It was a lovely evening. I’m so happy you all came for Helen. What a wonderful woman she is.” @aaronsharp123 wrote: “Best Family in Coronation Street.” @thedisneydaddy_ declared: “ICONS.” @margaretlewins added: “Lovely.”
