Coronation Street’s Tony Maudsley ‘told to button it’ with co-star he actually met 25 years ago
Coronation Street star Tony Maudsley has rediscovered the first time he and Amy Robbins last shared the screens together, having actually known each other for 25 years.
Those who follow the ITV soap best know the actor for playing George Shuttleworth in the ITV soap, having made his debut on the cobbles back in 2020
He was revealed to be the son of Archie Shuttleworth, a local undertaker who ran Shuttleworth’s Independent Funeral Directors on Tile Street, which George was now in charge of following his father’s passing.
Meanwhile, Amy recently reprised the role of Christina Boyd. The character was last seen on the cobbles earlier this year, after being double-crossed by her daughter, Daisy Midgeley.
As fans saw, Christina was in cahoots with Daisy to scam Jenny Connor out of a windfall. However, Daisy rumbled that Christina was working with catfish Dom, who was there to fleece Jenny out of her cash by acting as a new love interest who could double her investment, and instead of confronting her, got her hands on the cash herself and did a runner to Bali.

Christina returned to Weatherfield and quickly ruffled Jenny’s feathers, having been seen getting close to George, who she recently admitted to having a crush on.
After some questionable behaviour, which came as she didn’t believe Christina’s story that Dom had died, Jenny decided to leave Weatherfield and George and Christina’s relationship has continued to blossom.
And while fans love the now duo, Tony has pointed out it isn’t the first time he and Amy have worked together. Sharing a clip of them in a film together, he explained: “So George & Christina didn’t meet for the first time on Coronation Street. Oooh no. They’ve known each other for YEARS!
“Here’s me & @amylouiserobbins_ 25 years ago with little known turn Julie Walters having a jam session between scenes on a film we did in 2001 called My Beautiful Son, ably accompanied by Paul Reiser on the piano!”
It was then that the former Benidorm star admitted: “It was all going well till the people in the house next door complained and we were told to button it by our locations manager! RUDE!!”
He then shared two side-by-side pictures, on of them in the film in 2001 and one of them more recently in the iconic Rovers Return and said: “George & Christina. Tony & Amy. Old friends, bookends! #Corrie,” to which fans were quick to respond.
