Jacob Gallagher (Joe-Warren Plant) is under the cosh in Emmerdale, which is the exact time mistakes start happening.

Jacob is crumbling under the immense pressure from work as Dr Todd (Caroline Harker) continues cracking the whip – forcing him to hit impossible deadlines, undermining his confidence with constant critique.

His marriage is starting to suffer as he tries everything to keep on top of his medical work while sacrificing everything else.

But all this pressure just means Jacob’s head is not in the game.

When faced with an emergency, it all goes belly up for the distracted doc – and the patient is Dr Todd’s dad.

Dr Todd’s father goes into cardiac arrest and Jacob is the only one around. He has the hellish dilemma of acting or waiting ‘til his boss reappears.

The first-year med student decides not to waste time and springs into action, performing CPR on the patient. Only, the patient has a DNR in place and Jacob is dicing with the law.

Dr Todd learns of his actions and demands to see him. She predictably unleashes fury in typical Todd style, but strung-out Jacob claps back.

Stunned, Dr Todd orders him to leave. He’s humiliated and regretful and questioning everything about his skills, which at this point, he probably should.

But on his way home, with tears in his eyes, he’s distracted and further disaster strikes.

Kerry (Laura Norton) is keeping an eye on him and starts to wonder if the pressure he’s under is more than the usual. When she later overhears Todd giving him another going over, Kerry goes into protective Grannny mode.

She confronts the doctor, giving her both barrels. But Todd is too on the ball for Kerry’s big mouth and floors her by relaying all of Jacob’s mistakes. Every single one of them. There have been a lot. Kerry is stunned to hear how bad things are, and she’s made everything 10 times worse.
