EXCLUSIVE: Bonnie Sveen ‘cried everyday’ on the set of Home and Away with Stephen Peacocke
In an emotional revelation that has surprised many long-time fans of Home and Away, former star Bonnie Sveen has opened up about the deeply intense experience she shared on set with co-star Stephen Peacocke—admitting that there was a period during filming when she “cried every day.”
Sveen, who played the fiery and passionate Ricky Sharpe in the beloved Australian soap, recently reflected on her time in Summer Bay and the powerful storylines that defined her character’s journey. While viewers remember Ricky as strong and resilient, the actress revealed that bringing those dramatic moments to life alongside Peacocke’s character Darryl “Brax” Braxton was far more emotionally demanding than fans may have realized.
The pair formed one of Home and Away’s most iconic couples. The love story between Ricky and Brax captivated audiences for years, blending romance, danger, heartbreak and loyalty in equal measure. But according to Sveen, filming those scenes often took a personal toll.
“There were stretches where the storyline was so emotionally heavy,” she explained in a candid interview. “I remember going home some nights completely drained. There were days when I was crying every day on set.”
Much of that emotional intensity stemmed from the turbulent narrative surrounding the Braxton family. Ricky’s relationship with Brax unfolded during one of the soap’s darkest eras, filled with crime, family conflicts and life-or-death decisions. The character endured betrayal, danger and devastating personal losses—storylines that required Sveen to tap into some of her most vulnerable emotions.
And at the center of those scenes was Peacocke.
Despite the heavy subject matter, Sveen credits her co-star with helping her navigate the pressure of filming such emotionally raw material. Their close professional bond allowed them to build the chemistry that made Ricky and Brax one of the show’s most beloved couples.
“Stephen and I trusted each other completely,” she said. “When you’re acting in scenes that intense, you need to feel safe with the person you’re working with. We were able to support each other through some really tough days.”

Behind the scenes, the cast and crew of Home and Away are known for forming tight-knit relationships, but the dramatic demands of Ricky and Brax’s storyline pushed the actors to their limits. Sveen has often described the experience as both challenging and incredibly rewarding.
For fans, the honesty behind her reflection only deepens appreciation for the performances that made the storyline unforgettable. The emotional authenticity that viewers felt on screen was clearly not accidental—it came from two actors fully committing themselves to the emotional weight of the narrative.
Even years after their storyline concluded, Ricky and Brax remain one of the most talked-about couples in Home and Away history. Clips of their scenes still circulate widely among fans, and many viewers continue to call their romance one of the show’s most powerful arcs.
Looking back, Sveen says she wouldn’t change the experience, despite the emotional toll.
“It was exhausting at times,” she admitted, “but it was also one of the most meaningful chapters of my career.”
For Home and Away fans, her candid confession offers a rare glimpse into the reality behind the scenes—where the heartbreak of Summer Bay sometimes felt just as real for the actors as it did for the characters they portrayed.
