GH Recap: Luke Spencer Remembered in Anthony Geary Tribute

On General Hospital on February 20, the soap paid tribute to the iconic character of Luke Spencer and his legendary portrayer, the late Anthony Geary (who passed away on December 14, 2025, at the age of 78) in a moving episode. Although ABC aired an encore of the Daytime Emmy winner’s final episode on New Year’s Day, then presented a “loving montage” of moments from Geary’s decades on the soap at the end of the January 23 episode, the scripted episode served as an official farewell.

The storyline centered around Luke’s partner, Tracy (Jane Elliot), helping former stepdaughter Lulu (Alexa Havins) celebrate her father’s memory, since Luke had passed away while Lulu was in her years-long coma. Along the way, they were joined by his first wife, Laura (Genie Francis), niece Carly (Laura Wright), longtime friend Sonny (Maurice Benard), and former daughter-in-law Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst) as they all remembered the one-of-a-kind man through stories and flashbacks. Here’s everything that happened.

Luke Who’s Watching

In a hurry, Lulu accidentally spilled out the contents of her tote bag. As she put her belongings back into her purse, her gaze fixed on something underneath the bookshelf, which turned out to be a photograph of her father, Luke. She then went over to the Quartermaine house to show the picture to her “stepmonster” Tracy, who realized that Lulu had never had a chance to grieve her father’s death and vowed to help her honor Luke.

The women went to All Saints Chapel, but that didn’t feel right to Lulu since her father preferred bars and casinos to churches, so they decided to leave. Outside, they laughed about how Luke had tricked Tracy into marrying him for the first time while she was drunk, and Tracy remembered the morning after their Las Vegas nuptials. Struck with an idea, she took Lulu to the Brown Dog Bar, but since it wasn’t open yet, the owner told them to come back later. After Tracy paid him $500 cash, the man left them alone in the tavern, and as he zipped up his jacket, his name was revealed to be Luke. Helping themselves to Luke’s alcohols of choice, scotch and rum, Tracy and Lulu toasted to their Luke.

Let The Chips Fall

Over at Carly’s house, she was looking at a poker chip Donna had found when Sonny came over. Recognizing it as something he’d come across during his move, then gave it to their daughter, Sonny said that it reminded him of Luke. Flashing back to the first time he met Luke, Sonny remembered how angry Luke had been that he’d gone to the Spencer home to settle business. Then he told Carly that, despite that rocky start, Luke ended up being more a brother than a friend in the end, and Carly smiled as she recalled how good her uncle had been to her mom, even though she hadn’t had the best relationship with him herself. With Carly needing to get to Bobbie’s, they said good-bye, but not before commenting on how nice it had been to remember Luke. Sonny pocketed the poker chip.

Love Of A Lifetime

Meanwhile, Elizabeth dropped by the mayor’s office to tell Laura that Aiden was officially a licensed driver and fixated on finding the perfect car. When she marveled that she didn’t know where Aiden got his car obsession from, Laura smiled that it had come from his grandfather, Luke. Then, on her way out of the office to run errands, Laura told her assistant that she wanted to send Aiden his birthday gift early since her grandson was saving up for a car.

With Luke on her mind, Laura ended up at All Saints. Taking a trip down memory lane, she remembered the life she’d led with her ex-husband and spoke to him about the traits of his that their children inherited and how much of an impact he had on them all. Through tears, Laura told him that what they had was never really over for her, because their hearts were bonded together beyond time and loss and this lifetime. “Nothing could change that. Nothing. Thank you for the dance. Thank you for the adventure. And thank you for the love of a lifetime,” she wept.

Next, Laura went to Bobbie’s and sighed to Carly that she’d been thinking about Luke all day. When Carly marveled that she and Sonny had been talking about Luke earlier and wondered if it was his birthday or an anniversary, Laura smiled that there didn’t need to be a special occasion to remember someone. Later, Laura thanked Carly for keeping the diner going, since the place had been important to both Bobbie and Luke. After that, Laura remembered when she’d informed Luke that she wanted to be his wife as he was cooking in the kitchen at the very same diner, and then texted Lulu to see where her daughter was.

Later, Carly left the diner and, staring up at the Bobbie’s sign, recalled a conversation in which her uncle spoke about her having the Spencer grit. Carly then pulled out her phone to read a text message and noticed that the poker chip from earlier had somehow made its way into her purse. Meanwhile, at the hospital, Elizabeth cut out of work early after receiving a text message.

Cheers To A Life Well Lived

Back at the Brown Dog, Lulu and Tracy were sitting in a booth when Sonny entered, having spotted Lulu’s car outside and worried that she was stranded. Tracy explained why they were there celebrating Luke, and Lulu invited Sonny to join them. Over more drinks, the three discussed how, despite Luke and Tracy’s rocky start, he’d fallen hopelessly in love with her. “A couple so wrong, it turned out so right,” Sonny declared, and they joked about all the things Luke had gotten away with over the years.

Soon after Laura joined the trio, Carly arrived, having been invited by Sonny to join the gathering. Carly asked Sonny why he’d given her the poker chip back, but he claimed he’d had nothing to do with it. Elizabeth walked through the door next, having been told about the Luke celebration by Laura. As the group sat around drinking rum and scotch, Sonny mentioned that some people memorialize loved ones by sending lanterns out to sea.

Tracy made a few clicks on her phone, and the group then moved to the pier to release lanterns in remembrance of Luke. Laura shared with Lulu that it felt more like a “see you later” than a good-bye when it came to Luke, because there were little things all the time that reminded her of him. The group toasted Luke with a round of straight whiskey in to-go cups, and Lulu whispered, “This just feels right,” then thanked Tracy for helping her say good-bye to her dad. As Lulu turned her attention back to the water, she gasped at what she saw in the distance: Luke, walking through the fog, with a duffel bag slung over his shoulder. Luke’s apparation smiled at his daughter, then briefly closed his eyes before walking into the dark night. Lulu murmured, “See you later, Dad.”

Never Forgotten

Once the women left, Sonny stood alone on the dock and flashed back to the day Luke gifted his gun as he left town, determined to find something different than the life of crime they’d both led. Holding up his cup in a toast, Sonny smiled at his friend. Back at her house, Liz found that Aiden had left her a freshly baked muffin. After remembering the time when she’d baked brownies for Luke and asked her father-in-law to accompany her to the G.H. Christmas party, Liz settled in on the couch to read her son’s car magazine.

Laura returned to her office, where her assistant told her that she’d purchased a birthday card for Aiden. Picking up the card, Laura was speechless to see an image of a vintage car, just like the one Luke used to drive. Then she remembered their dances in Wyndham’s, on their wedding day, and at the Triple L Diner in Canada.

Carly went back to Bobbie’s to clean up for the night and flashed back to an argument she’d had with Luke while he was staying at the Metro Court hotel, where her uncle told her that because they were family, he didn’t want to see her get hurt. Over at the Quartermaine house, Tracy was drinking a cup of tea and remembered the day Luke proposed… for real. Back in the present, Tracy choked on a sob and wistfully said, “I’d do it all again.” Finally, Lulu placed the photograph she’d found earlier, now in a frame, on the top of the bookcase, and remembered her father telling her that she was smart and strong enough to handle whatever life threw at her because she was a Spencer. Then, feeling something in her pocket, Lulu pulled out a poker chip. “Thank you for giving me your luck. And your love, Dad,” she said. Kissing the chip, she propped it up against the picture frame, then kissed her fingertips and brought them to Luke’s face.
