GH Recap: Nathan’s Alive (Or Is He?), The Qs Mourn Monica and More

Monica’s (Leslie Charleson) death rocked Port Charles as news of her passing spread around town in the September 19 episode of General Hospital. But things got even more surprising when a patient was wheeled in who looked just like Nathan (Ryan Paevey)! Plus, Danny (Asher Antonyzyn) confronted Drew (Cameron Mathison), Anna (Finola Hughes) and Dante (Dominic Zamprogna) met with Laura (Genie Francis), Gio (Giovanni Mazza) and Emma (Braedyn Bruner) shared their first kiss, and more. Here’s how it all shook out:

Information Exchange

Laura arrived at Anna’s office for an update on Judge Heran’s murder, and with Dante at her side, the commissioner revealed that evidence seemed to indicate that the judge’s murder and Drew’s shooting were connected. Laura noted that the judge’s body being found in the water off of Pier 55 gave the Measure C people more ammo against Sonny, and Anna agreed the location could have been a conscious choice. As the meeting continued, Anna and Dante filled Laura in about the money transferred to Heran’s account (which gave Sonny and Michael motive, in Anna’s view) and about the evidence of said transfer being found in Drew’s account, which might only mean that he’d found proof of the judge’s windfall, not that he was responsible for it. Anna noted that anyone who cared about Wiley and Amelia’s custody had a motive for shooting Drew. Anna added that ADA Turner had interviewed Drew, but she wanted to ask him questions of her own. Laura asked that they keep her in the loop, because if the local congressman was involved in dirty dealings, it could affect the whole town.

Lost and Found

In the stables, Cody was chatting with Outback when Molly returned to report that she had found the owners looking for their missing dog. Cody wasn’t as excited, but Molly reminded him that Outback wasn’t his. Just then, Gio interrupted to tell them about Rocco’s missing dog and handed them flyers while telling them how the pooch had run off when a car backfired. Molly shot Cody a knowing look, and Cody returned Outback to a delighted Gio. Rather than accept the $10,000 reward, Cody suggested the money be donated to an animal shelter. Molly appeared both surprised and pleased, telling Cody she knew he was a good guy.

At Bobbie’s, Emma was chatting about the missing Outback with Rocco when Gio called Emma to meet him at the Quartermaine stables. After she left, Rocco wondered if he should have told Emma that Britt was alive, but Charlotte suggested she was already dealing with a lot right now. She also urged him to talk to their mom about Britt because if Lulu was okay with her having a relationship with her dad, maybe she’d be okay with Rocco having one with Britt. But Rocco admitted he wasn’t sure that’s what he wanted. Now that she was alive and in Port Charles, it was all a bit too real.

When she arrived at the stables, Emma was thrilled to see Gio had found Outback. As they both enjoyed a warm reunion with the pooch, their hands touched, and the pair shared another charged moment. But this time, they actually went in for the kiss!

Standing up to the Bully

Drew was surprised when Danny came to visit him in the hospital. The teen explained he was there about Scout, but Drew insisted the restraining orders were staying in place. Danny pointed out that he hadn’t yet been served with his restraining order, so he wouldn’t be breaking any laws by seeing Scout. “Look at you, finding ways to circumvent the law,” Drew snarked. “You are your father’s son.” Danny insisted he didn’t want to break any laws and was just concerned about Scout. He wanted to help her and didn’t want to go behind his back to do it, so he asked if Drew would let him see his sister. Drew continued to refuse to let him near Scout. “I know you think you’re hurting me as a way to get back at my dad,” Danny shouted, “but the only person you’re hurting is Scout!”

Drew didn’t see it that way, so Danny insisted that Scout was really struggling, noting the times that she called him and Charlotte to pick her up so she could be with her family. Drew insisted that he knew what was best for his daughter. He added that he didn’t think Danny was really a bad kid, instead blaming Jason for the whole mess.

When Danny tried to argue that Rocco and the Quartermaines weren’t bad people, Drew reminded him that Monica had barred him from the estate, and he wasn’t going to let his daughter go somewhere he couldn’t go. Giving up, Danny started to walk out, but suddenly turned back to take one last shot. “My mom wanted nothing more than for me, Rocco and Scout to stay together,” he angrily declared. “She would hate that you’re doing this. It would break her heart. I hope you can live with that.” Drew kept up his steely gaze during the verbal assault, but as soon as Danny stalked out, his expression turned thoughtful.

Bad News Travels Fast

At the hospital, Liz filled Lucas in on Britt meeting with the co-chiefs of staff, and he couldn’t believe Britt thought she could just waltz in and get her job back. Looking at her computer screen, Liz stopped short and reported that Monica Quartermaine had just died. Shaken, Lucas offered Liz his sympathies. Liz told him how Monica was supportive of Jake’s interest in art and had been her son’s first paying customer. Lucas marveled at how many lives Monica had saved during her career and called it a great loss to G.H. and Port Charles. “There will never be another Monica Quartermaine,” Liz declared.

Later, Liz called Jake to let him know that Grandma Monica had passed away, and Danny walked up just in time to overhear. Liz then went to see Drew, who immediately started ranting about Danny and how Jason and Michael turned the Quartermaines against him. She cut him off to let him know that Monica had passed.

Sharing the Grief

Jason entered the gatehouse while hearing Tracy’s voice in his head describing when Monica first bonded with him as a baby in that very building. Michael walked in and immediately knew something was wrong. He assumed Jason had heard that he was under suspicion for shooting Drew, but Jason explained that wasn’t the case and passed along the heartbreaking news that Monica had passed away. Michael struggled to process the news, mentioning how Monica had wished Wiley well on his first day of school and regretting that he wasn’t with them. He teared up as he recalled how he always visited her every morning… except this one. Jason assured Michael that Monica knew how much he loved her.

Michael wondered if Drew’s shooting had something to do with her taking a turn, but Jason told him they’d kept that from her, and when he finally went to tell her, she was already gone. “When I walked into the room… the air, it just felt different,” he related, the words sticking in his throat. “Like her energy and spirit were just… were just gone. I checked her pulse, but deep down I knew. Checked her breathing, but… so I just took her hand and sat with her. For a while. She looked at peace.”

Jason confided how much he regretted that he and Carly had tried to keep the Quartermaines out of Michael’s life. Michael assured Jason that Monica was delighted to have Jason and Danny at the house, and whatever had happened in the past, she clearly loved him. Michael asked if Jason wanted to come with him to join the rest of the family up at the house, but Jason wanted to stay at the gatehouse a while, relating the story Tracy had told him about Monica taking care of him as a baby. Michael left, and Jason sat on the couch with tears in his eyes. “I miss you, Mom,” he whispered. “I love you.” Danny arrived at the gatehouse and sat down next to his father as they silently comforted each other.

Family Matters

At the main house, Brook and Ned wondered why Tracy had summoned them. Tracy walked in and choked out, “Monica died.” Ned and Brook Lynn were both hit hard by the news. Tracy broke down as she related how she went to see Monica and promised to take care of everybody that she loved. “So many people that I have loved are gone,” she cried. “Daddy, Mother, Alan… my Luke… and now Monica. What am I gonna do without Monica?” Brook Lynn and Ned swiftly moved in to envelop her in a warm embrace.

Ned grew emotional as he told his mother he wanted her to know how much he loves her because they don’t express affection much in this family, and they don’t know how much time they have left. Brook Lynn got in on the love fest, telling them both how much she cherishes being a part of this family. Brook Lynn wanted to help by making calls or writing the obituary. Tracy insisted on making the final decisions, but said she would be grateful for her company. Later, Tracy made sure that Ned was okay, and he admitted he’d thought Monica would recover from her latest health struggles just like she had all the previous times. Brook Lynn agreed and couldn’t imagine the family without her. Michael joined them and thanked Tracy for everything she did for his grandmother. Tracy lamented thinking Monica was never worthy of the Quartermaine name, but she proved her wrong. She then declared that all of this (meaning the house) should be Michael’s.

Seeing a Ghost

Lulu came upon a crashed car and called 911 as she checked on the man unconscious behind the wheel. While the paramedics tended to the driver, Chase arrived and asked Lulu to walk him through what had happened. She reported that she didn’t see the accident but saw the car as she was driving by and stopped to help, but didn’t see any other people or vehicles. Chase thanked her for her help, and she left to go pick up her kids.

Dante and Anna arrived at the hospital to question Drew as the paramedics brought in the accident victim. Lucas rushed to take care of the patient, but stopped short when he saw their face. Seeing his expression, Anna and Dante walked over and were also stunned to see a man who looked remarkably like the late Nathan West!
