During Monday’s Corriedale, Emmerdale’s Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) and Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley) separately headed into the woods to try and find John Sugden (Oliver Farnworth).

During a fight, John’s shotgun went off but missed Robert and Corrie’s DC Kit Green (Jacob Roberts).

The bullet travelled and ended up hitting Cain in the stomach. Cain was rushed to hospital, but was given some life-changing information from a doctor that had nothing to do with his gunshot wound.

Cain learnt that he needs to undergo tests to see if a mass that’s been discovered is cancerous. It was an absolutely heartbreaking moment. His wife, Moira Dingle (Natalie J Robb), is months on from her own cancer journey, and has been by Cain’s side ever since the news was broken.

Visiting Cain during tonight’s episode was Kyle Winchester (Huey Quinn), his son. The young lad has been through an awful lot in his short life, so comments made by Moira and Cain about his dad being indestructible weren’t working with him.

Kyle couldn’t help but express his fear that his dad was going to die in the hospital, just like his mum. Last February, Amy Wyatt (Natalie Ann Jamieson) fell through an icy lake and was rushed into A&E afterwards. Due to her injuries and the severe hypothermia she suffered, Amy died.

Cain and Moira tried their best to reassure Kyle, but the sad reality is that neither of them knows what Cain’s future looks like at the moment.

Kyle headed off to find Mackenzie Boyd (Lawrence Robb), which prompted Cain to tell Moira that they won’t be able to hide his health secret from Kyle forever.

Moira didn’t quite agree. She said that if Cain’s scan comes back clear, Kyle won’t need to know.

Sadly, good news isn’t waiting for Cain just yet.
