Huge BBC Casualty spoilers for tonight as Flynn makes resignation decision
BBC One’s Casualty is returning to our screens this evening after a small break last week.
We’re now over halfway into the show’s current boxset Learning Curve, which has focused on the arcs of two new resident doctors.
The pressure is on for a number of other staff members in the episode, as Ceri from the CQC continues to keep a watchful eye over the hospital.
As the episode opens, Flynn Byron (Olly Rix) is taken aback to see her again. While she’s impressed with the improvements made to the hospital, Ceri’s view of the ED changes when she witnesses the aftermath of a massive mistake made by Matty Linklater (Aron Julius) and Kim Chang (Jasmine Bayes).
On the roads, Jacob Masters (Charles Venn) and Teddy Gowan (Milo Clarke) continue to argue over the complaint Jacob made against police officer Ashley, who racially profiled Jacob’s son Blake.
Meanwhile, Siobhan McKenzie (Melanie Hill) learns some new information about her case. It doesn’t leave her with a lot of hope, and she refuses to let Cam Mickelthwaite (Barney Walsh) support her in the aftermath.
It’s going to be a busy episode! Here’s everything you need to know.
Flynn feels the pressure

Flynn is surprised when Ceri from the CQC arrives. She spends her morning observing and being impressed by the changes Flynn has made to the ED. However, when Dylan asks her to assist with a patient, Ceri suffers a flashback to working in the ED over the pandemic.
Following a mistake made by Matty and Kim, Flynn tries to tell Ceri that it was an isolated incident, but she tells him that his previous training exercise and lack of consultant cover led to them not asking for help.
Flynn tells the team that they haven’t passed and fingers are pointed at Matty and Kim, but he cannot help but shoulder part of the blame himself. He then informs the team that they’re no longer allowed to open for major trauma at night. This also means jobs are on the line, and lives will be lost.
Outside the ED, Flynn watches ambulances pull away from the entrance. Siobhan joins him, and is saddened to hear Flynn say that he should resign because he’s made the ED worse. Siobhan tries to reassure Flynn, telling him they’ll fix it together.
Will Flynn end up leaving?
Kim and Matty make a serious mistake

Kim jogs into work. A while later she makes herself sick and then discovers she’s hit 500% of her daily movement goal. Kim then realises her vision is blurred, and she starts to wonder if she’ll make it through her shift.
Kim and Matty treat Tara, who has a head injury. Realising the issue is the dizziness that caused her to sustain the injury, Matty suggests a lumbar puncture on the patient, and Kim questions whether Flynn could supervise.
Flynn is busy though, so Matty decides they don’t need him. With Kim not wanting to ask Stevie, and Matty reluctant to ask Dylan as well, Kim has to supervise, while hiding her own struggle.
Matty performs the procedure, with Kim reading out the instructions from her phone. When Matty questions something, Kim cannot see the instructions as her vision is so blurred. Under pressure, Kim tells Matty that he can put the needle in higher than L3-L4. While Kim struggles to stay upright, we see the instructions – the needle must not be entered at L2-L3 or higher.
The situation dramatically changes when Matty and Kim learn that Tara cannot feel her legs. As they panic, Flynn arrives and examines Tara with Ceri watching. Flynn takes control of the situation and tries to calm a horrified Tara as it dawns on her that she might never walk again.
In Flynn’s office, he questions Matty and Kim and wonders why on earth they didn’t ask for help. Matty tries to stick up for him and Kim, telling Flynn they couldn’t trust him after the training exercise.
A while later, Matty wonders how Kim could’ve read the instructions wrong – but she states that anyone can make a mistake under pressure.
Teddy and Jacob’s debate

While on a shout, Teddy and Jacob argue over the complaint made against Ashley. Jacob continues to defend himself, while Teddy remains convinced that Ashley isn’t racist. Later, Teddy tells Ashley that Jacob’s complaint will go away if she apologises.
Jacob accepts Ashley’s apology, but Teddy’s left confused when he refuses to take back the complaint. In the pub a while later, Teddy tries to relate to the situation that happened with Jacob and Blake, but Jacob points out that Teddy was raised by a white family – he doesn’t walk in the same shoes as Blake.
Teddy’s left completely taken aback, and Jacob stands his ground and says he still won’t retract the complaint.
Siobhan makes a discovery about her attacker
Siobhan learns that the police have made an arrest because her rapist’s DNA was on her uniform. Hopeful that he’s going to face justice, Siobhan is confused when DI Hughes explains that suspect Chris Banfield was a patient at the hospital. Cam admits that he asked Siobhan to treat him, meaning there’s a chance it could undermine the DNA evidence.
Cam really wants to support Siobhan but she brushes him off, only just managing to hold it together.
