ITV Coronation Street legend left with broken rib after horror skiing accident
Coronation Street was compelled to implement a significant alteration to the ITV drama following a cobbles stalwart’s previous agonising injury.
Tim Metcalfe (Joe Duttine) has remained a cornerstone of the programme since making his first appearance in 2013. As Faye Windass’s (Ellie Leach) long-lost dad, he quickly established himself as a viewer favourite.
The Street Cars operator has featured in numerous unforgettable plots – from his amusing bond with closest pal Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson) to shocking DNA revelations.
His courtship and subsequent wedding to Sally (Sally Dynevor) has equally provided compelling viewing for the programme, reports the Daily Star. The couple began their relationship in 2013 before tying the knot in 2015.
Nevertheless, behind the scenes, Tim’s portrayer Joe previously endured an excruciating injury which resulted in Coronation Street implementing a major adjustment to his role.

During the On The Sofa podcast, presented by Joe’s Corrie colleagues Colson Smith, Jack P. Shepherd and Ben Price, the group discussed what occurs when a performer sustains an injury during filming.
Looking back on Joe’s mishap, Colson remarked: “Joe Duttine broke his rib skiing didn’t he?”. An astonished Jack responded: “Oh yeah he went into the tree! The ski tree!”.
Colson continued: “And he came back and there was this amended script that he’d [Tim] fallen off his ladder window cleaning.”
Nick Tilsley performer Ben then added: “Do you not remember when I had a big plaster on my head and they took it out in post [production].”

Meanwhile, in other Corrie developments, the programme is preparing for its groundbreaking crossover episode with Emmerdale next year. For the first time in British soap history, an hour-long special will bring characters from both programmes together in a celebration of the genre.
The landmark episode, set to broadcast in January, will have “everlasting consequences for everyone involved”, with the two shows’ worlds in Manchester and Yorkshire connected in an “ingenious way”.
A press release states: “Lisa Swain’s life on the cobbles has been thrown into chaos these last few weeks after the return from the dead of her police wife ex Becky. As we approach this milestone episode, commissioned to launch ITV’s new Soaps power hour schedule, viewers will be more convinced than ever that there’s a more sinister side to Becky lurking beneath.
“Over in the Dales, Danny’s character Aaron has seen off his ex-husband, killer John Sugden, but just as things were looking back on track with the love of his life, Robert Sugden, Robert’s secret prison husband, Kev, turned up. It’s safe to say things aren’t going to be straightforward for this couple anytime soon.”
