An Jacob Gallagher (Joe-Warren Plant) suffers at the hands of his bullying boss Doctor Todd (Caroline Harker), an unlikely saviour uncovers the abuse and rides to the rescue. Will they make things worse?

What started as a dream placement at Hotten General Hospital is quickly turning into a nightmare. Jacob’s enthusiasm to become a doctor is slowly being chipped away at by the cruel Doctor Todd, who routinely attacks his character and his ability.

A prime example of this was a few weeks ago, when Jacob came across a disturbed Bear Wolf (Joshua Richards) in A&E look for some drugs to duel the addiction he developed during his modern slavery ordeal.

Unable to administer medication for him, Jacob took Bear to a quiet room to calm him down. This did not work, and in the grips of PTSD, Bear attacked Jacob. Instead of comforting her colleague, Doctor Todd tore a strip off poor Jacob over not following protocol.

Not content with belittling him, Todd is also working Jacob into an early grave by assigning him huge research papers with an impossibly tight deadline. Even when he managed to hand them in on time, they weren’t goo enough for the not-so-good doctor.

She’s even sabotaged his performance and attempted to get him fired. Earlier this week, Jacob misdiagnosed Kim Tate (Claire King) with mushroom poisoning.

Sending Jacob out of the room, she proceeded to tell Kim, Joe Tate (Ned Porteous) and Dawn Taylor (Olivia Bromley) that they can make a complaint about him.

However, in private, Doctor Todd put the fear of God into Jacob by claiming that Kim could sue if they don’t apologise. When a terrified Jacob protested that Doctor Todd had previously agreed with the mushroom poisoning diagnosis, Doctor Todd accused him of distorting the facts. She wasn’t about to admit wrongdoing, especially to a student.

Despite everything, Jacob has always looked up to his boss. Unit recently, when saw her manhandling and aggressively shouting at a patient. recently. Furious, he confronted Todd and accused her of abusing a vulnerable old man under her care.

But to Jacob’s shock, Doctor Todd revealed that the elderly patient was her dad.

We got a rare glimpse into Caitlin Todd’s life away from thehospital as she revealed that she has a wife, and her dad was a gifted neuro-surgeon who is now suffering from late-stage dementia. Sympathetic, Jacob shared his own experiences with his grandfather Eric Pollard’s (Cristopher Chittell) struggle with Parkinsons’. The conversation ended with a seemingly new understanding between mentor and pupil, with Doctor Todd even offering Jacob a chance to attend a prestigious neurologic clinic that night in Leeds. Is Jacob’s Horrible Boss drama finally over?

Of course not. But this time, he’s not only one to see her true colours. Another Emmerdale resident is set to give the not-so-good doctor a taste of her own medicine… and it’s none other than Jacob’s fiery step-grandmother, Kerry Wyatt (Laura Norton).

Panic sets in at the hospital when Dr Todd’s father goes into cardiac arrest. With no one else around, Jacob leaps into action, giving him CPR despite him being marked as Do Not Resuscitate.

Jacob is terrified when Dr Todd orders him to follow her after relaying her fury at him performing CPR on her father. When he snaps at her,Jacob is left humiliated and horrified when Dr Todd orders him to go home . Filled with shame, Jacob leaves the hospital with tears in his eyes, furious with himself.

Seeing Jacob so low, Kerry starts to suspect there’s more to the pressure Jacob’s putting on himself than meets the eye.What will she do?

Overhearing Todd having another go at Jacob at the hospital later, Kerry heads over for a word – making it very clear that Toddhas met her match.

But as Kerry lays into Dr Todd, Todd turns the tables back on her, reeling off all the mistakes Jacob has made.

As Todd heads off, Kerry is left with the nasty feeling that she’s just made things worse for Jacob…
