Slow Burn Sunday, Slow Start: It’s Time for Audra’s Backstory on Y&R
This week’s slow-burning story involves one that could be in the making on The Young and the Restless. Audra is the woman who’s on everyone’s lips and minds lately. The Newmans want to get rid of her, and they’re not the only ones. Claire and Kyle wish her the worst for wrecking their happy relationship. Everybody in town thinks they know who she is, but they don’t. Maybe because she needs a backstory. Will she ever get one?
Who Is Audra Charles?
Audra (Zuleyka Silver—check out these fast five facts) was first introduced as a ruthless businesswoman with close ties to Tucker (Trevor St. John). Although she wants to be successful, success hasn’t been easy for her. She’s faced more setbacks than we can count on one hand. Because of this, Y&R fans are split on whether she deserves a win.
She already lost Glissade. Now, she’s picking up the pieces from losing Vibrante and her relationship with Nate (Sean Dominic). She accepted Victor’s (Eric Braeden) deal to seduce Kyle (Michael Mealor), which came with big risks. He was willing to fund her beauty company, but if only she followed through on his promise.
Things didn’t go her way, and she’s lost more than she’s gained. Now, it’s coming out that Audra and Holden (Nathan Owens) were up to something illegal in Los Angeles. Why is Audra such a complicated character? Why does she have an obsession with money and power? Where does it stem from?
Fans Need a Backstory
If anything, Y&R fans deserve a backstory. The little fans do know is that her father was an alcoholic. She shared this vulnerable tidbit with Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott) when she was in the throes of addiction while they worked together.
Audra’s mom is not in the picture for whatever reason. She used to have a relationship with Noah (ex-Rory Gibson) when they both lived in the UK. (Will Audra’s past force her to move on?) Though it was serious, it ended on bad terms.
Then, Audra got pregnant and lost their baby. This could be the reason why she’s afraid to settle down. Audra loudly claimed that marriage is an archaic institution. She doesn’t need a man to “settle” her down.
It’s time for Audra’s backstory to be told. Maybe incorporate some of her family into the mix. She’s an interesting and dynamic character, whether you love her or love to hate her. Giving Audra a backstory would bring some humanity and depth to the character.
