Why Ezra Boyle Was Temporarily Recast on ‘General Hospital’ Due to a Winter Storm
General Hospital villain Ezra Boyle looked a lot different in the most recent episode of the hit ABC soap.Soap alum Daniel Cosgrove originated the shady congressman in March 2025.
However, on March 2, 2026, Cosgrove was nowhere to be found, and a new actor was playing the role of Ezra, who gave Mayor Laura Collins (Genie Francis) a stern warning about newly elected Congresswoman Willow (Katelyn MacMullen).
Temporary Ezra Recast Was Necessary on General Hospital
No, there has not been an actor change for good, and Cosgrove isn’t exiting General Hospital. However, actor Patrick Scott Lewis has stepped into the role for a couple of episodes.
According to Soap Opera Digest, Cosgrove got stuck in New York City in January due to a powerful winter storm. The East Coast-based actor was forced to stay home during the storm, which wreaked havoc on the Big Apple from January 23 to January 26.
Due to his travel issues, Ezra had to be recast for two episodes. Soap Opera Digest reported that Lewis will also appear on March 16.
After that, Cosgrove will be back in the role as things heat up between Sidwell (Carlo Rotta), Ezra, Laura, and Sonny (Maurice Benard).
Who Is Actor Patrick Scott Lewis?
The 45-year-old actor has had a lengthy career in film and television. Lewis has made guest appearances on shows like Castle,The Graveyard, Cold Case, CSI: Miami, and American Dreams.
Most recently, the actor appeared in the Netflix series Monster: The Ed Gein Story as Victor Travis.
Playing Ezra isn’t Lewis’ first General Hospital gig either. In 2024, Lewis played Thomas, the father of a young boy who interrupted Trina (Tabyana Ali) and Kai (Jens Austin Astrup) so the boy could get a picture with athlete Kai at the time.
