Coronation Street’s star Tanisha Gorey announces engagement with rarely-seen partner

The Asha Alahan actress shared a series of loved-up snaps as she revealed the good news

Coronation Street star Tanisha Gorey announced her engagement to rarely-seen boyfriend as she admitted she’s “still crying”.

Tanisha, 24, joined the show in December 2009 as Dev and Sunita Alahan’s daughter. Alongside her twin brother Aadi Alahan, the teen has found herself tackling some huge storylines over the last few years.

Asha’s recent journey has seen her training to be a paramedic, and viewers have watched her become involved in some challenging storylines.

She was caught up in both Craig Tinker and Mason Radcliffe’s deaths, including a scene where she had to hold Hope Stape accountable after she delayed the ambulance that could have saved Mason’s life.

Away from life on the cobbles, Tanisha tends to keep her private life just that but sometimes shares updates with her partner, Lucas Whelan.

While he doesn’t often feature on her social media as they keep their relationship out of the spotlight, Tanisha first went public with her relationship with Lucas on her 18th birthday. The two were then flooded with support when they revealed they had bought their first home together back in 2022.

On Saturday (January 17), Tanisha took to her Instagram and shared a carousel of loved up snaps as she announced that she’s now engaged.

With one picture showing a heart-shaped cake that read “just engaged”, another snap followed of Tanisha smiling next to her now-fiancé as she showed off her ring.

As she gushed: “brb still crying”, her Coronation Street co-stars were quick to flood the comments with love for the star during her special announcement.

Tony Maudsley quipped: “Babes I’m really made up for you….BUT I don’t think I got a bit of cake???” as Cait Fitton added: “whattt???!! Omgggg I’m so happy for you both! Congrats to you and Lucas”.

Vicky Myers penned: “Congratulations to you both. What fabulous news xxx” and Daniel Brocklebank who left Weatherfield after his death in Corriedale, echoed: “Ahhhhhhh congratulations darling!”

Tanisha was one of the forty cast members who were part of Coronation Street and Emmerdale merging for one night only in order to celebrate ITV’s new “soap power hour”.

Asha found herself battling against her PTSD and anxiety as she rushed to help the casualties at the scene, including Todd Grimshaw and Carl Webster.
